Clash of Armies is a free browser-based strategy game where you recruit soldiers, train heroes, and research upgrades to build an army across 7 historical eras — then watch your army clash automatically against the enemy in a cinematic auto-battle. No download, no account, and no wasted time: open the page and you're recruiting your first army within seconds. But there's a twist that sets it apart from most army-builders: lose a single battle and your entire run resets, gold and all, so every climb through the 50 stages is a genuine fresh test, not just a number that only ever goes up.
Play it now at Game CMB.
Clash of Armies is an auto-battle strategy game built around one core loop: recruit, upgrade, fight, repeat — except the "fight" part isn't yours to micromanage. Before each battle you pick your army composition from five combat roles (melee, ranged, tank, area-damage, and fast units) and assign up to three heroes, each with a real ability on a cooldown. Once the battle starts, both armies clash on their own, unit by unit, while you watch the tactics you set up play out — armor absorbing hits, ranged units kiting behind your tanks, a hero's ability turning the tide at exactly the right moment.
The journey runs across 7 technology eras — Primitive Age, Ancient Age, Medieval Age, Industrial Age, Modern Age, Future Age, and Robotic Age — spread over 50 stages, with new unit types, new hero classes, and a new battlefield look unlocking as you climb. It runs entirely in the browser using HTML5 Canvas, works the same on a phone or a desktop, and drops you straight into your first battle with a couple of taps — no install, no tutorial video, no loading screen.
Most army-building games let you accumulate forever — log in, spend resources, get a little stronger, repeat, with no real cost to a bad battle. Clash of Armies removes that safety net: lose, and the run is over. Gold, roster, upgrades, hero levels — all of it resets to the same starter kit a brand-new player gets. That single design choice turns every stage past the first couple into a real decision: push one more battle for a better score, or play it safer with the army you've already built? There's no "eventually I'll out-level this" fallback — only the run in front of you.
That's what makes the climb genuinely tense instead of just a longer number going up. Early stages establish the rhythm — recruit, upgrade, win — but by the third stage or so, a starter army stops being enough, and every Gold decision (more soldiers, or the next Weapons upgrade, or a stronger hero) starts to matter for real. And because the leaderboard only records a run's score once that run actually ends, the number next to your name means something specific: not "how much have I ever earned," but "how far did one real attempt get." Add Achievements and a Daily Reward streak that keep building no matter how any individual run goes, and there's always a reason to jump into one more run, right after the last one ends.

You recruit soldiers and heroes and choose your army composition before each battle. Once the battle starts, your army and the enemy army fight automatically — you don't control individual units, just watch, upgrade between battles, and repeat.
Clash of Armies has 7 technology eras — Primitive, Ancient, Medieval, Industrial, Modern, Future, and Robotic — spread across 50 stages of rising difficulty, each with its own unit types, heroes, and battlefield environment.
A loss ends your current run. Your Gold, army composition, upgrades, and hero levels all reset to the same starter kit a brand-new player gets, and your next attempt starts fresh from Stage 1. You're also offered the chance to save that run's final score to the global leaderboard under a nickname before starting again. Your Achievements, Daily Reward streak, and lifetime stats are not affected by a run resetting.
Your score builds as you win battles and advance through stages during a run. That score is only submitted to the global leaderboard once the run actually ends — that is, when you lose — so the leaderboard reflects how far a genuine, from-scratch run got rather than a total that only ever climbs.
No account is required. Your progress is tracked automatically in your browser session, and you only need to enter a nickname when you want your run's score to appear on the global leaderboard.
Between battles, spend Gold earned from wins on six upgrade tracks: Weapons (damage), Armor (health), Training (attack speed), Technology (unlocks new eras and units sooner), Army Capacity (more soldiers per army), and Hero Training (stronger heroes). Upgrades reset along with the rest of your run if you lose a battle.
Heroes are powerful units with their own ability on a cooldown, drawn from six classes — Berserker, Commander, Destroyer, Sniper, Engineer, and Titan. You can assign up to 3 heroes to your army at once, and they level up through Hero XP earned from winning battles.
