Goalkeeper: How Many Shots Can You Save?

The ball is already in the air. There's no time to think — only to react. Goalkeeper strips soccer down to its single most nerve-wracking moment and turns it into an arcade game built around one simple, addictive question: can you save the next one?

    What Is Goalkeeper?

Goalkeeper is a free, browser-based reaction game built for Game CMB. There's nothing to install, nothing to sign up for — you're standing between the posts within three seconds of opening the page. The idea is almost insultingly simple: a ball gets kicked toward your goal, you swipe in the direction it's heading, you dive. But the shots get faster, sneakier, and stranger the longer you survive, and that's where the game actually lives.

    How to Play

Watch. A shot is struck toward your goal from somewhere on the pitch.

Swipe. Drag (mouse on desktop, a real touch-swipe on mobile) in the direction the ball is flying. Dive early and accurately and you'll read it perfectly; hesitate or guess wrong and it's in the back of the net.

Save. That's it. The whole loop — BALL → SWIPE → SAVE! — takes about two seconds to understand and a lifetime to master.

You've got three hearts. Miss three shots and the run is over.

Why It's So Hard to Put Down

Every save you make is scored on how well you actually read it, not just whether you happened to dive the right way. A rough guess in roughly the right direction earns a normal save. A sharp, accurate dive earns a Good or Perfect Save. React fast and accurately and you'll land an Insane Reflex bonus. Dive into one of the punishing top corners with real precision and you'll trigger a Top Corner Save — the hardest shot in the game to read on purpose, and the most satisfying to actually pull off.

The shots don't stay simple for long. Early on it's slow, straight strikes — just enough time to learn the controls. Then the ball speeds up. Then it starts arriving at sharp angles. Then it curves mid-flight, bending away from where it looked like it was headed. Then comes the fake — a shot that shows you one direction and switches at the last instant, punishing anyone who commits too early. Then the Panenka: a soft chip straight down the middle that punishes diving at all — the right move is to hold your nerve and stay put. And eventually, two balls arrive at once, and you only get to save one.

Chain saves together without missing and your combo climbs — every miss resets it to zero, so a careless dive at combo x8 costs you far more than the missed save itself. Hit combo milestones at x5, x10, and x20 and you'll bank huge flat bonuses on top of your growing multiplier. And every so often, a rare glowing Golden Ball appears — save it, and it's worth more than almost anything else in the game.

Built to Load Fast, Play Anywhere

Goalkeeper runs on plain HTML5 Canvas — no plugins, no heavy downloads, no framework weighing it down. It's built mobile-first, so a single thumb-swipe is all you need on a phone, while a mouse works just as cleanly on desktop. Every score is validated server-side before it hits the leaderboard, so the names at the top actually earned their spot.

    Tips to Climb the Leaderboard

    • React early, not just correctly. Diving in the right direction the instant the ball is struck earns far more than a last-second lucky guess in the same direction.
    • Don't panic on the Panenka. The moment a shot floats straight up the middle, resist the urge to dive — holding steady (or nudging gently up) is the save.
    • Read the fake before you commit. A shot that suddenly changes direction mid-flight is designed to catch impatient dives — wait half a beat longer than feels comfortable.
    • Protect your combo above everything. A single miss erases your multiplier instantly. On a Double Shot, pick the ball you're most confident about instead of guessing between two.

    Ready to Take the Gloves?

Step between the posts, watch the ball leave their foot, and find out how many shots you can actually save before one finally beats you. Your streak — and the global leaderboard — are waiting.

    FAQ

How do you play Goalkeeper? Swipe (or click-drag on desktop) in the direction the incoming ball is heading to dive and save it. React fast and aim precisely for Perfect Saves and Insane Reflex bonuses.

Is Goalkeeper free to play? Yes — completely free in your browser on Game CMB, no download or account required.

What is a Perfect Save? A Perfect Save happens when you dive in exactly the right direction with sharp accuracy. Reading the shot early gives you a shot at an Insane Reflex bonus too.

How does the Panenka shot work? It's a soft chip straight down the middle. The correct read is to hold still instead of committing to either side — swiping hard left or right lets it in.

Can I play Goalkeeper on mobile? Yes — it's built mobile-first with full touch support, and plays just as well with a mouse on desktop.
